Volunteering, love and bikes...

On Thursdays, Dawn has been going to Cycle-Re-Cycle to volunteer her time working on inventory in the computer and on actual donated bikes.  It's a new non-profit in downtown Benton Harbor and it's a good one.  What's not to like? They take donated bikes and recycle/rebuild/refurbish them.  Then besides that, the adult volunteers mentor local youth so that the kids can earn a bike and learn how to maintain it.  But it's not just about the kids either, adults can learn & earn too.  Or you can stop by and purchase a bike, with the money going right back into Cycle-Re-Cycle.

I had to run some errands and then decided to swing by the bike shop and see my girlie.  When I pulled up, she smiled and said that she and Marilyn (another volunteer) had just biked over 4.5 miles, which included biking by Lake Michigan.  Sweet!  I'm so proud of her!!

Here's the route that they rode:
My girlie rocks!

So about the volunteering part - we both volunteer, have since we met each other and I know that we both were volunteering before we met.  I guess I don't volunteer as much as I use to since I now work for the place that I did most of my volunteering at, but Dawn, heck, she works a full time job and still volunteers.  And that's one of the many things I love about her, along with her ability to make people laugh and work magic with spreadsheets.

Local & want to learn more about Cycle-Re-Cycle?  Cycle-Re-Cycle facebook page or here: Cycle-Re-Cycle  And do you volunteer anywhere?  If not, why not??
