Java Juice - Sock retriever
Today we had an appointment with the vet for Java Juice. I had called a couple of days ago to make the appointment, knowing that I had to make the decision, because she was my cat, I brought her into our relationship 9 years ago. I've had Java since she was a kitten. She had been abandoned in a box with 3 other litter mates at someone's home and since I worked for the local police department, I sent a car to go pick up the kittens. Java came home with me because she didn't seem to care about the dog, not one hiss.
She got her name because I had a dog named Bailey, Java was a basically black kitten and I like Bailey's and coffee, so there you have it.
This is Java as a kitten - I wrote the year on the back as '95, so my old girl was 16. This is the only time that Java was allowed in the grass, she was an indoor cat and pretty much was ok with that designation. Don't you just love little kittens bristle tails?
Java's lived in four houses and three states. A friend once told me that when you lose a pet, the whole history with that pet goes through your mind and I concur with that, I remember different bits and pieces that made Java unique, though she was always an odd cat. She wasn't a pick me up and pet me kind of cat, she only came and laid on my lap if it was her choice. She had a thing for water bottle caps and for retrieving socks from the basement. (She had her own basket of socks, for years we'd wake up and find a bunch of stray socks scatter throughout the house, compliments of The Juice.)
This has been Java's usual nap place this past year. It's close to a water source and we supplied a small ramekin of water just for her.
Java's been looking pretty scruffy too this last year, we get wrinkles and cats get thin & scruffy looking. Java this morning being a cat, finding a bit of sunlight to hang out in.
Java with Wesley & Barron. Barron was really good with Java, since she didn't always want to be around the other cats. He would get next to her, she would growl, he get a little closer or a little lower, wait, she'd growl again and they would continue until he was curled up around her, both of them taking a nap together.
She had the loudest purr and she would purr so loud and hard that she would choke herself up sometimes. It's going to be weird not seeing her in the bathroom so much any more. She is the last of the 3 pets that I brought into the relationship I have with D now. Rest in Peace Juice, we will miss you.
